Work Update - Conversion of Website to a 2 Column Layout with a Horizontal Bar

Overview
Work Period: Sep 26, 2013
Hours Worked: 06:40 @$2.22/hour
Money Paid to Me (Virtual Assistant): $13.33*
(*Exclusive of $1.47 charged by oDesk)
Overall Difficulty of Tasks: Medium

  • Transcribed and posted the “Under Construction” bloglet before the conversion. Also researched a photo for it. Since I am out of stock photo credits, therefore used a creative commons image.
  • Created full backup of the site before converting it to a 2-column layout. Please review Dropbox
  • Moved all right hand column items to the left hand column on a SW dot, then minimized it.
  • Converted Ideal-helper to a 2 column layout.
  • Also set up horizontal navigation bar. Please have a review.

  • Thanks for providing quick feedback on the conversion task, I have made the following changes after watching the feedback video:
    • I have created a callout out box using Grid function for Meet virtual assistant part, but did not use it because it was not looking good. There was a lot of extra space between text and images which I couldn't eliminate. Similarly can’t change the anchor text link color.
    • Added a border around the content column.
    • Fixed Homepage call-out box text
    • Changed images corners to round via Site designer
    • Added Custom CSS code for blog design.
  • I used blue header because if we use the images from your vacation, then there would be a lot of blue background color (sea color), So keeping in view those images, I opted this header image.
  • Otherwise, If we don’t use any picture from your vacation, then I will create a new header image with white background.
  • Also lighten the color of call-out box and made it identical to bloglet callout boxes. Made this change because there were many issues with a dark colored box e.g. we cannot use any color other than black, can’t change anchor text color, bullet list color is set to black and we can’ even change them manually.
  • Haven’t changed the color of Horizontal Nav-bar identical to callout box because at the moment it suits with the header color. In future if we switch to another header image then I will change the header color as well.
  • Checked top 5 traffic pages and fixed any formatting issues. There are some issues so I suggest to check more pages based on the traffic priority of the pages.

Work Update - Pre Conversion Discussion and Feedback

Overview
Work Period: Sep 24 & 25, 2013
Hours Worked: 8:30 @$2.22/hour
Money Paid to Me (Virtual Assistant): $17.00*
(*Exclusive of $1.87 charged by oDesk)
Overall Difficulty of Tasks: Medium

  • Thanks for the feedback about the site design research. If you've decided to use a horizontal Nav-bar, then I think none of the design template does matter.

As we won't be using a vertical nav-bar so everything else is easily customizable within Site Designer. And we can also customize the look and feel of the horizontal nav-bar so in my opinion it will not matter whatever template we us because we will be using only the content column and a right hand extra column.

Content column is customizable (font, headings, colors) and right hand extra column would be blank. I hope you understand what I mean.
  • About putting the nav-bar on the right hand, I have researched this and explained how we can use such a template. Please review it here. As I mentioned earlier that no-matter what design template we use (all are same without a vertical nav-bar), so I think this would be most easy and effective solution for switching Ideal-helper to a 2-column layout and a horizontal nav-bar.

  • As far as header image is concerned, you are right that it’s almost impossible to present both the sea and ideal-helper written on sand at the same time. Since I found ideal-helper (written on sand) barely visible and noticeable, therefore I opted to show sea instead.
  • I also really like the picture of you in the air, but I think it’s not giving a virtual assistant and outsourcing website related look and feel, it’s more of a karate or kung fu style. Perhaps you should ask to your designer friend who helped you in the past for design issues.
  • However I have created a head image out of it, please have a review:

Work Update - Site Designer Administrative Support

Overview
Work Period: Sep 23, 2013
Hours Worked: 5:20 @$2.22/hour
Money Paid to Me (Virtual Assistant): $10.67*
(*Exclusive of $1.17 charged by oDesk)
Overall Difficulty of Tasks: Medium

(A screenshot from today's work diary)

  • I have researched some two-column design templates for ideal helper, please have a review of the folder 2-Column-Temps in High priority folder.
  • Also if we change the design layout from 3-column to 2-column, it will be implemented to the entire site so we can't chose some of the pages or we can’t test it on one page.
  • You have also asked me to implement horizontal nav-bar, but I think first we need to switch to a 2-Column template and then implement horizontal bar.
  • I have also researched about how to move Nav-bar to the right in two column layout. There is a custom template in Site Design Gallery where you can select such a design. Please see this Template.

Party Games Website Update:

  • Distributed more pages via Rss.
  • Here is recently published drinking story: Drinking with Blow-up Dolls

Ideal-Helper Administrative Support:

  • I have also tried to create a header with your vacation pictures, Can’t implement it until we go 2-column

Administrative Support for Building Tier Pages

Overview
Work Period: Sep 19 & 20, 2013
Hours Worked: 7:40 @$2.22/hour
Money Paid to Me (Virtual Assistant): $15.33*
(*Exclusive of $1.69 charged by oDesk)
Overall Difficulty of Tasks: Medium

(A screenshot from today's work diary)

  • I have added all newly built interview and Cost of Living Thailand tier pages to Sitemap
  • Also updated their notes in MKL
  • Some of the keywords were not researched via Brainstormer, in fact there are no results and information for some of the keywords, I have Marked them as ‘Not found in Brainstormer’ in Sitemap.
  • Brainstormed and researched keywords for 2nd Stefan interview page, please review Dropbox.
  • Inserted download Stefan interview 1 FBI form to all entrepreneur-interview-stefan sub pages.
  • Inserted download Stefan interview 2 FBI from to all 2nd interview sub-pages.

Party Games Website Update:
  • About Link Fixit! report, there was only one broken link in Party Games website and that was due to owner removed the photo from flickr. But based on the researched creative commons information, and we also have digital stamp proof of the image, we can still use the image. Therefore I haven't removed the image, only removed the link.
  • Rotated more DUYP pages via RSS.
  • Here are newly published drinking stories:
    • ToBe or Not to Be
    • The Most Exhilarating Night of My Life

Administrative Support:
  • About downloading link pages report from Google webmaster account and uploading it to value exchange, I have successfully practiced that and will update it once in a month.
  • Transcribed and sent the email to Mohammed and offered him an interview offer. Then removed his C2 submitted job request. Also saved the email offer draft for future use.
  • Although I have not opted to distribute all interview pages to Rss, but they were distributed all via Rss. I have removed them from Rss blog.

List Mailing Project Update:
  • I have created an account with leadskimmer.com, but this service is totally different from other list mailers, you cannot earn credits there. The service is more complicated, I have watched some of their videos to understand the procedure.

You have to generate real leads and you have to generate at least 3 leads to get qualified. You can link an email autoresponder to leadskimmer account (as I have linked ideal-helper main aweber list). To generate real leads you have to promote leadskimmer via an affiliate link or banner. As I mentioned earlier that we have to generate at least 3 leads to qualify to leadskimmer and for this either we will have to place their banner on ideal-helper or need to promote it via any other method.

Work Update - Beta Testing Horizontal Nav-Bar

Overview
Work Period: Sep 17 & 18, 2013
Hours Worked: 10:00 @$2.22/hour
Money Paid to Me (Virtual Assistant): $20.00*
(*Exclusive of $2.20 charged by oDesk)
Overall Difficulty of Tasks: Medium

(A screenshot from today's work diary)
  • About the horizontal navigation bar, I have created another clone of homepage (with ‘nofollow’ ‘noindex’) and changed the color of nav-bar to identical to callout box as you said. Please have a review.
  • Also don’t worry about the additional background space (As shown in the picture below), we can easily eliminate this by choosing the same background color in the new header.

  • Adding more menus would not look appropriate in my opinion, because the font size of menus is already very small and adding more menus will push them a bit more smaller. I suggest to modify long texts into short titles i.e. ‘The Best Place to Hire’ is way too big and by using less menus and smaller texts we can enhance the visibility which will add value in my opinion.

Moved Ideal-Helper Pages to Different Invitations:

Party Games Website Update:

  • Approved all 10 drinking stories from Mechanical Turk HIT, researched one image for each story and submitted to party games website.
  • Distributed more pages via Rss.
  • Received a new submission, published it after cleaning and formatting it up a bit. Since the submission was less than 300 words, therefore merged into another page. Truth or Dare Ideas - PG Rated
  • Moved the user-submitted explicit story to explicit content folder and then deleted the actual submission.
  • Received another short submission which I posted within an existing C2 post, please have a review.
  • Experimented with BB1 to BB2 cloning, converted double-dare.html to BB2, then changed the previous BB1 page’s filename to double-dare-bb1.html, saved it. The page was available in the site-central for sometime, but suddenly disappeared.

    Bottomline: Experiment Failed.
  • Then experimented a bit more, changed the contact-page filename to contact-page-bb1 and built the page prior to conversion. Then converted this page to BB2 with file-name contact-page (Original).
  • It worked perfectly, now we have two variations of the same page:
    • contact-page (in BB2 format)
    • contact page-bb1 (in BB1 format and built with noindex, nofollow)

Ideal-Helper Administrative Support:

  • Removed draft option from all interview pages, and built them all with ‘nofollow’ ‘noindex’
  • Also linked all interview pages to their respective anchor texts in the second-interview-stefan overview pagel
  • Sent more email messages via different list mailers.

Work Update - List Mailing Tracking and Cost Calculation

Overview
Work Period: Sep 03 & 04, 2013
Hours Worked: 10:00 @$2.22/hour
Money Paid to Me (Virtual Assistant): $20.00*
(*Exclusive of $2.27 charged by oDesk)
Overall Difficulty of Tasks: Medium

(A screenshot from today's work diary)

  • About list mailing project cost calculation, as I told in the previous work update that in the previous month (August, 2013) both Aneel and Aizha were working on the same accounts and Aneel was earning credits for other accounts as well and then switched to Aizha’s account, therefore accurate cost calculation is not available for August, however here are some rough cost calculations that will give you some sort of idea:
Total Hours Aizha Logged: 23:30 (from 1st-22nd Aug)
Total Hours Aneel Logged: 11:40 (from 23rd-31st Aug)
             Total Hours logged: 35:10
            Total amount Billed: $39.04 (35.10 x $1.11/hr)
     Total Traffic Generated: 1935
                     Cost per Click: $0.20 (1935/$39.04)

  • Moved Aneel’s productivity analysis screenshots to future blog posts.
  • Sent more email messages via list mailers’ accounts where available.

Blogger Diary Update:

Party Games Website Update:

  • About ‘how to get girls’ eBook paypal button which is not working, I have checked other paypal button (Truth or Dare Stories eBook) and that is working fine. I have also compared both codes and there is not much difference between both of them. I think you will need to generate the code again via PayPal.

  • Distributed more pages via Rss.
  • Here are recently published drinking stories:
    • A Night Out in the City
    • I Regret the Time I was Playing Truth or Dare
  • About BB1 page cloning where you asked me to copy the content from one specific BB1 page to a new BB1 page, unfortunately this is even not possible because we can’t build new BB1 pages with SBI! anymore.

However, one possibility that I can think of is to manually clone the BB1 page to BB2 (just like conversion of the page) and then change the filename of BB1 page (for example drinking-stories.html will become drinking-stories-1.html or drinking-stories-test.html) and then ‘nofollow’ ‘noindex’ the page. This way we will have the access to existing BB1 pages, but for that we'll need to test it for at least one page.

Ideal-Helper Administrative Support:

  • About the Ideal-helper facebook and ideal-helper website header bar, first I would like to give it a try before we outsource it to someone via Fiverr.
  • About Aneel’s absence, he has pre-informed me that he would be out of town for 3 days and hopefully he will resume his work from today i.e Wednesday Sep 04, 2013.
  • Read the SBI! forum post about horizontal nav-bar and after that implemented that into this test page. Please have a review.
  • I think we will have to change the layout of the website to a 2-column template. Also we have to completely redo the header, I was about to make some changes but as you said that you will give more picture that can be used in the header therefore did not change it at the moment.
  • If we use a two-column template for ideal-helper, this will change the entire formatting of the website (especially images) so we will have to recheck all pages from start.
  • About FB comment for odesk Team room application, I have saved my answer to Dropbox/High priority folder
  • Uploaded following interview pages to ideal-helper. All pages are ‘nofollow’ ‘noindex’ and saved as drafts.
    • What to look for in a virtual assistant
    • Fixed Price vs Hourly Rate
